REMBRANDTHUIS

Rembrandt x Dutch Pancake Masters

You came for pancakes.

Fair enough. That’s usually how it starts.

Somewhere between choosing sweet or savoury and wondering whether adding whipped cream is really a good idea (it always is), people start looking around. That’s usually when they notice they’re surrounded by some of the greatest names in Dutch history. Rembrandt. Vermeer. Van Gogh. At Dutch Pancake Masters, they aren’t just decorating the walls; they’re part of who we are.

We didn’t choose our name because it sounded nice. We chose it because the Netherlands has always been a country of masters. Some mastered light and shadow with a paintbrush. We decided to dedicate ourselves to something equally Dutch: the traditional Dutch pancake.

If you’re going to call yourself Dutch Pancake Masters, you have to commit to the theme. That’s why our walls celebrate the artists who helped put the Netherlands on the map long before tourism ever did. And of all those Dutch Masters, Rembrandt is probably the one who needs the least introduction.

A Friendship Worth Framing

Our admiration for Rembrandt eventually grew into something we’re genuinely proud of: a collaboration with the Rembrandt House Museum.

Together, we’ve created a dedicated Rembrandt corner inside our restaurant, where guests can discover more about the artist, his life in Amsterdam and the museum that’s only a short walk away. You’ll also find a display featuring traditional pigments and painting materials, offering a small glimpse into the techniques Rembrandt used to create some of the world’s most famous works.

It’s a fun way to add a little extra Dutch history to your visit.

And no, there won’t be a quiz afterwards.

Just pancakes.

The Perfect Amsterdam Combination

One of the best things about Amsterdam is that you never have to choose between culture and comfort food.

You can spend the morning wandering through the Rembrandt House Museum, stand face to face with the world of one of the greatest Dutch painters who ever lived, and then continue your day with another Dutch classic just a few minutes away.

A traditional Dutch pancake may not hang in a museum, but it has been part of Dutch culture for generations. Dutch families have gathered around stacks of pancakes for centuries, debating toppings, insisting that crispy bacon and Dutch syrup belong together and proving that pancakes absolutely count as dinner.

We still serve those classics today, alongside a few bold creations that show tradition and creativity get along surprisingly well.

After all, Amsterdam has always been a city where old and new happily share the same streets.

Why shouldn’t they share the same menu?
